Recently I saw a home that had a new door installed and to do so the opening had to be cut larger for the door to fit. But the contractor failed to cover and plastic his work area properly, and brick dust got everywhere. This led to the walls, ceiling, floors, furniture, various household items and the duct work to be covered in a heavy dust. How could have this been avoided? By taking your time to prep the work area properly and investing in certain items, like zip walls, will avoid this error and a few thousand dollars to remediate the problem. Whenever we’re involved in a project where cutting is involved, mostly when doing French Drains and Sump Pumps, our prep work usually takes hours before the work is to be begin. Using zip walls to hold the plastic eliminates the use of masking tape which can come loose, and using an Air Scrubber in the work area will transfer anywhere from 3000 to 5000 square feet of dirty or infected air. When hiring a contractor, be sure that they’re using the highest preventive measures in regards to prepping the job prior to starting. This can save you thousands of dollars and a lot of tedious cleaning once the job has been finished.
